It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mary Ellen Kenney of Cedar, Iowa, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who passed away on May 18, 2025, at the age of 99, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

She was predeceased by: her husband Thomas J. Kenney; her parents, Edward Michael Ryan and Mary Lucille McGee; her siblings, Edward Michael Ryan (Marian), John (Jack) and Ryan (Lorraine); and her son Paul Ryan Kenney.

She is survived by: her children, Captain Patricia Kenney, Jeanne Brandes (Matthew), Mary Ellen "Molly" Kempf (Edward), Thomas (Robin), Jack (Christine), Anne Smart (Jeff) and Eileen Foxhoven (Tony); her grandchildren, Katherine Beihl (Aden), Martha Brandes (Ronan Farrell), Laura Ebinger (Tom), Sarah Colony (Drew), Dan Kempf, Marcus Kenney (Tiffani), Joseph Kenney, Michele Kenney, John Kenney, James Kenney, Thomas Hayes (Molly), Michael Smart, Grace Smart, Liam Smart, Matthew Foxhoven, Kristin Catrenich (Adam) and Greg Foxhoven; her great grandchildren, Lincoln, Archer, Parker Beihl, Saorla, Ailidh Farrell, Maggie, Mary Ryan "Molly", Charlie Ebinger, Audrey Colony, Walter Kenney, Henry, Elizabeth Hayes, Halle and Gavin Catrenich; and her siblings-in-law, Tim and Dolly Kenney. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Mary Ellen's name to Mercy Medical Center Foundation https://mercycare.org to support the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center or Nursing Scholarships, Meth-Wick Care Community (https://methwick.org), or All Saints Catholic Church.

“My deep sympathy and prayers to the relatives of Mary Ellen Kenney: I was not able to attend the service for Mary Ellen, but have kept her in my heart and prayers for many years as I walked with her on the journey of her losing her very dear husband, Tom. I used to share many great times and learned a lot from Mary Ellen as she was loaded with wisdom and knowledge in her career and committee involvements. A very grand spark of Irish was in her eyes and being very Irish myself, HUMOR also.”
