He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorwin Butterfield and Beulah Butterfield (Jestes); his son William Butterfield; his stepdaughter Cynthia Zeran; his siblings, Audrey Butterfield, Lester Butterfield, Winona Lown-Richardson and Garnett Mishler; and his brothers-in-law, Jerald Clyde, Keith Lown, Paul Richardson and Laverne Knight.

He is survived by: his sons, Kevin Butterfield (Julie) of Toddville, Gregory Butterfield (Rita) of Center Point and Lester Butterfield of Toddville, Iowa; his stepdaughter Ann Williamson (Paul) of Decatur, Illinois; his grandchildren, Andrew Butterfield (Janet), Melanie Butterfield, Cody Butterfield, Lilith Butterfield, Justin Butterfield, Daniel Butterfield, Derek Butterfield (Jennifer), Christopher Butterfield (Lindsay) and Amber Johnson; his sister Joy Knight; and his friends, Howard and Sandra Ashlock. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
