He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Dain and Beulah "Eloise" Mathes (Marvin); and his nephew Kenneth "Sonny" Mathes Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Darcy and Thad; his siblings, Kenneth Mathes, Karen Vandemark (David) and Teresa Kirkland (Darrin); and his aunts and uncles, Virginia "Jenny" Ruth (Vaughn), Diane Bogle (Tom), Roger Marvin (Beck) and Shirley Mathes. He is also survived by his grandchildren; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Dale Church (18994 IA-5, Centerville, IA 52544). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 11:45 AM at the same location.
