He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel "Sam" Thomas and Mary Magdalene Thomas (Grenko); his wife Phyllis Jordan Gardner; his siblings, Charles Thomas and Genevieve "Babe" Flowers; and his brothers-in-law, Casey Flowers and Frank Rehmeier.
He is survived by: his sons, John Charles (Teresa) and James Leroy; his siblings, Beverly Rehmeier of Omaha and Michael Thomas of Arizona; his children, Jeffrey Thomas (Peggy), Jim Thomas (Robin) and Jennifer Wakefield (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Grant, Adam, Alexander, Daniel, Paul, Molly, Andrew and Lauryn.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 25th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home-Centerville (501 N 18th St, Centerville, IA 52544). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 25th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
