We announce the death of Mary O'Brien of Chariton, Iowa, who passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 91. Mary will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Lloyd Holmes and Arneitus Holmes; her husband Dennis O'Brien; her brother Donald Holmes; and her grandson Jarod Chester.

She is survived by: her children, Rich Chester (Jacque), Bruce Chester (Kathleen), Starla Atwell (Rick Durr), Kelly O'Brien Schwartz (Michael), Dana O'Brien, Carrie Thomas (Brian) and Jennifer Frye (Daniel). She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren; along with many relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lucas County Fair Association or the Lucas County FFA.
