He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Ortmayer and Lily Ortmayer (Froland); his wife Colleen Ortmayer (Brunner) of John's Lutheran Church; his brother William Ortmayer; and his daughter-in-law Anne Brunner (Wegener).

He is survived by: his children, Denise Ortmayer (Michael) of Greenfield, Indiana., Rodney Brunner of Longmont, Renee Patterson (Quinn) of Sigourney and Douglas Ortmayer (Sandra) of Charles City; his grandchildren, Chris Smolik, Adrienne Toledo (Raul), Robin Fogg (Pin), Roxanne Townsend (John), Dylan Patterson, Emily Weber (Ryan), Hunter Ortmayer (Katherine), Noah Strange and Nicklaus Strange; and his great grandchildren, Oliver Toledo, Olivia Townsend, Sophia Patterson, Riley, Ella, Karlie, Maycie Weber and Reed Ortmayer.
