He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Nelson and Lillie Nelson (Jensen); his mother-in-law Lorna; and his siblings-in-law, Bonnie (Bill Joines), John Erickson, John Christensen and Vernon Brue.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Main of Cherokee, Iowa; his children, Jeff Nelson (Penny) of Harlan, Scott Nelson (Katie) of Mason City, Iowa and Shelly Vesper (Jim) of Kellogg, Iowa; his grandchildren, Shelby Book (Dylan), Alex Nelson (Becky), Blake Nelson and Jacob Nelson; his great grandchildren, Craten, Mavrik, Emmett and Chloe Nelson; and his sisters, Verna Christensen of Harlan and Linda Brue of Harlan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (230 N Roosevelt Ave, Cherokee, IA 51012). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Danway Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Trinity Lutheran Pre-School.
