He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Benton (Rich) and Opal Benton (Sheeder); his stepmother Adah Parish Benton; his siblings, Max Benton (Jean) and Bea Millhollin (Bob); his in-laws, Frank and Minnie Cannon; his siblings-in-law, Roger and Lois Wickland; and his nephew Pat Benton.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Cannon; his children, Julie Rutherford (Doug), Scott Benton (Karen) and John Ely; his grandchildren, Brody Benton (Michelle), Bethany McCool (Nicholas), Ian Rutherford (Claire) and Alec Rutherford (Sara Freimuth); and his great grandchildren, Ethan, Norah, Levi, Jace Benton, Casen, Crayton and Coy McCool.
