He was predeceased by: his parents, William Sr. Schermer and Lenore Schermer; his brothers-in-law, Ivan Pingel and Larry Johnson; and his parents-in-law, Roman and Wilma Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Johnson of Clarion; his children, Angela of Clarion and Troy (Tonya) of Clarion; his grandchildren, Jacob (Reagan Goodell) of Goldfield, Kalli and William of Clarion; his siblings, Connie Pingel of Latimer and Brad Schermer (KaRene) of Latimer; and his sister-in-law Pam Meyer (Terry) of Thornton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
