He was predeceased by: his parents, Detlef Carstensen and Olivia Carstensen (Nelson); his wife Annette Carstensen (Colburn); and his siblings, Judith Gorman (Jack), David (Joanne), Richard and Jack (Patricia).
He is survived by: his children, Brent (Ann) of Iowa City, IA., Lynne Gunn (Stuart) of Marietta, SC., James (Zach) of Waukee, IA. and Lisa O'Rourke (Michael) of Kenilworth, IL.; his grandchildren, Olivia, Nathan, Valerie Gunn, Madeline, Ryan, Sean and Grace O'Rourke; his children, Australian and Ian Edwards (Virginia) of Sydney, AUS.; and his friend Kay Mulholland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed, in Jim's memory, to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clinton or The Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County, in Iowa City.
