She was predeceased by: her parents, Edwin "Ed" Hicklin and Carolyn "Cotty" Hicklin; her parents-in-law, Roger and Dot Gerst (Dorothy); her daughter Hannah; her sister Joan Cross (Ronald); and her sister-in-law Becky Gerst.

She is survived by: her husband Rod; her daughter Carolyn "Cary" Gerst; her siblings, Martha Remley (Greg), Betsy Barber, Nancy Roach (Mike), Jane Weaver and Bill Weaver (Erin); and her brother-in-law Marty Gerst (Brenda). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, https://www.seiso.us., in Kate's name.
