She was predeceased by: her parents, Earl Richard, Sr. and Velma Elizabeth Harless (Dorn); and her husbands, Ronald Kates and Jack Edmonds. She is survived by: her children, Jeff Kates of Glenwood, Iowa, Terry Kates of Glenwood, Iowa, Mark Kates of Red Oak and James Edmonds of Phoenix, Arizona; and her siblings, Rick Harless (Norma) of Tabor, Iowa, Marjorie Perkins of Glenwood, Iowa and Ella McNeal (Frank) of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

A graveside service was held on Friday, December 12th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Glenwood Cemetery (1105 N Locust St, Glenwood, IA 51534).

Memorial donations have been designated to the American Cancer Society.
