He was predeceased by: his parents, Gearl Thomas and Thelma Thomas (Coon); his wife Nancy Thomas; his sons, Jerry Jr. and Jeff; and his grandson Camden Simmons.

He is survived by: his daughter Kari Simmons (Rob) of Avoca, Iowa; his grandsons, Derek Simmons (Kaylee Mumm) and Will Simmons; and his great grandchildren, Dean of Avoca and Ellie Simmons of Avoca.
