He was predeceased by : his parents, Harry Smith and Margaret Smith (Christofferson); his grandson Micah Thomas; and his siblings, Jack Smith, Marjorie Pickinpaugh, Jacqueline Achenbach, Shirley Lee and Norma Leeper.

He is survived by : his wife Judy Smith; his daughters, Cheri Thomas and Shelly Valdiserri (Tom); his grandchildren, Jacob, Julie, Zachary, Samantha and Rachel; his great grandchildren, Claire, Ava, Ella and Caleb; his sister Betty Smith (John); and his sister-in-law Ginny Smith.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 11th 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home & Crematory (545 Willow Ave, Council Bluffs, IA 51503). A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 11th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

Memorials are suggested to The PACE Center or Salem United Methodist Church.
