He was predeceased by: his father Harry Buhr; his wife Joan; his mother Marie Sorge (Wesley); his nephew Chad Oakland; his stepson Dan Smith; and his grandson Anthony Smith.
He is survived by: his sister Anne Oakland (Dave); his niece Lynn Helgerson (Kevin); and his stepchildren, Deb Rima (John), Jane Mckernan, Steve Smith (Mary), Rick Smith (Judy), Jan Henkes (Jim), Donna Fontana (Tim), Terry Smith and Russ Smith. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and 1 great nephew, 1 great-great nephew, 1 great niece.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Helms Funeral Home (306 E Water St, Decorah, IA 52101). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
