He was predeceased by: his parents, Clem Houdek and Adeline Houdek (Kupka); his granddaughter Allie Houdek; his brother-in-law Chuck Curtis; and his parents-in-law, Al Hass and Madeline (Ray Duneman).

He is survived by: his friends, Charlie and Marilyn; his wife Lavada Hass; his children, Todd Houdek of Cresco and Teri Sue Gassmann (Jason) of Ankeny, IA; his grandchildren, Hunter Houdek of Rochester, MN, Gage Houdek of Stewartville, MN, Taylor Gassmann (Michael) of Nashville, TN and Tessah Gassmann of Ankeny; and his siblings, Lynus Houdek and Joan Curtis. He is also survived by niece, several nephews and wonderful friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cresco Fire Department or the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa.
