He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold George and Loretta Bernice Thode (Hotop); his sister Nancy Lee Thode; and his nephew Brent Borcherding. He is survived by: his wife Charlene Thode (Mundt) of Davenport; his children, Matthew VanHoosier (Angie) of St. Louis, Michelle Murray (Nathan) of Davenport and Michael VanHoosier (Stephanie) of Durant, Iowa; his grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Cheyenne, Savannah, Noah, Evan, Ethan, Presley, Miles, Margaret, Haiden and Karson; his sisters, Patricia Thode of Davenport, Sally Borcherding (Robert) of Springfield and Sue Nelson (Steve Cunningham) of Davenport; his nieces, Erica Cunningham and Trish Moore (Aaron); his cherished bonus family, Jennifer and Jeremy Shaw; Alex and Peter. He is also survived by many extended family members, in-laws, and good friends.
