He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Vargas and Lucy Vargas (Juarez); and his sister Sharon Vargas Olsen. He is survived by: his daughter Natalie Smith (Matthew); his grandchildren, Hayden and Peyton Aleksiejczyk; his children, Tyler of Davenport, Haylie of Davenport, Jaden Conger of Davenport and Travis Vargas of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Genny Appleby (Mike) of Pennsylvania, Rita Vargas (Ken) of Davenport, Vivian Ready (Tom) of Dubuque, Lydia Vargas of Davenport, Alex Vargas (Yolanda) of Los Angeles, Lupe Vargas (Kit) of Davenport and Edward Vargas of Davenport; and his nieces and nephews, Alexis, Karla and Jacob.

Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to his beloved son Travis to further his treatment and care at R.E.M of Cedar Rapids.
