He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Simpson and Elva Simpson (Wear); his siblings, Vernon, Maymie, Melvin, Russell, Geneva, Juanita and Chester; and his friend Robert Kent.

He is survived by: his children, Debra Bushek (Bob), Lori Newberry (Scott) and Jeffrey "Jael" Simpson; his former wife Beverly Perry; his sisters, Nina Wiegand and Zelma Hall; his sister-in-law Valerie Felton (Lyle); and his grandchildren, Carissa, Tiffiny, Heather, Sara, Jered, Jessica and Christopher. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church , Davenport or the Metropolitan Christian Church of the Quad Cities (MCCQC), Davenport.
