He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Haakenson and Alice Haakenson. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Thompson; his children, Michael Haakenson (Felicia) of Davenport, Iowa and Lisa Williams (Jake) of Olathe, Kansas; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Benjamin Haakenson, Riley and Meadow Williams; and his siblings, Marlan Haakenson (Barb) of Bismarck and Karen Mueller (Virgil) of Fargo.

Memorials may be made in Lyle's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
