He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald R. Granneman and Ruth Granneman (Suhr); his daughter Cynthia Smith (Cindy Marie); and his sister Sandra Picken. He is survived by: his wife Donna Persels (Campbell); his children, Michelle Evans (Stephen), Steve Persels (Tina) and Beth Schechter (Tom); his grandchildren, Rachel Evans (Eric Hartmann), Karly Evans, Leah Evans (Kade Buysse), Peter Evans, Nathan Smith, Madalyn Smith, Andrew Smith, Joey Schechter (Harley), Claire Schechter, Adam Persels and Araya Persels-Hutton (Xavier); and his son-in-law Scott Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in his name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Camp Shalom Christian Camp, Maquoketa, Iowa.
