He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Schau and Marjorie Schau (Freeman); his former wife Helen Buckley; his brothers, Merlyn (Irene), Marvin and Ronald (Ruth); and his son-in-law Mark Sampson.

He is survived by: his son Schau Plumbing; his wife Phylis Schnoor; his sons, Mike Schau (Caren) of Hendersonville, Mark Schau (Ellen) of De Witt and Martin Schau (Bill Swiderski) of Dunedin, Florida; his stepdaughters, Sheri Wallace (Mike) of Eldridge, Cindi Sampson of Dubuque and Lisa Christoffersen (Tom) of Camanche; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Schau and Red O'Toole. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
