He is survived by: his wife Judy Bowles; his grandchildren, Hailey Carolan (Dustin) of Iowa City and Hunter Spilde (Samantha) of Decorah; his great grandchildren, Kipton Carolan, Cali Carolan and Myla Spilde; his son-in-law Kraig Ney; his siblings, Richard Dotzenrod (Dana), Karen Friest (Robert), Mary Schissel (Ken), Jim Dotzenrod, Kevin Dotzenrod, Laurie Kesterson (Bill), Lisa Crowley (Tim) and Lynette Wenthold (Terri); and his sisters-in-law, Anna Bowles and Jean Dotzenrod.
