He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert L. Bernatz (Babe) and Agnes C. Bernatz (Holm); his wife Wanda; his stepmother Gladys Bernatz; his brothers, Durwin Bernatz, Gerald Bernatz and Albert G Bernatz; his sister-in-law Alice Bernatz (Hanson); and his son-in-law Patrick J Cunningham.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jana Cunningham of Decorah and Kari Rude (Gregg) of Decorah; his grandsons, Jason Rude (Lisa) of New Hampton and Jared Rude (Amanda) of Decorah; and his great grandchildren, Landon Rude, Lillian Rude, Riley Rude, Lyla Rude and James Rude.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at the First Lutheran Church (604 W Broadway St, Decorah, IA 52101). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
