John left this world on January 13, 2026 at the age of 79, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Carol Jean Matter (Simonson) and Leonard Wilfred Matter; his parents-in-law, Ida and Milo; and his siblings-in-law, Margo (Keith Walsh), Michael Noecker and Bill Noecker.

He is survived by: his wife Suzanne Noecker of John's Lutheran Church; his daughters, Erica Worrell (Robb) and Jennifer Matter (Eddie Lin); his grandsons, Ryan Worrell, Dylan Worrell, Samuel Matterlin and William Matterlin; his stepgrandchildren, Miranda Cook (Matt) and Nick Worrell (Shelbi); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Jensyn and Bowie; his siblings, Michael and Susan Kvammen (Mark); his sister-in-law Bettie Fox (Les); his nieces, Kerri, Rachel and Sarah; and his nephew Bill.
