With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Phillip J Reitan of Decorah, Iowa, who passed away on July 8, 2025 at the age of 95. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Phillip J Reitan to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Reitan and Helene Reitan (Jensen); his wife Ruth; his siblings, Earl, Clayton and Norma; and his grandson Samuel Boyden.
He is survived by: his children, Carol Reitan (Richard Boyden) of Berkeley, CA, Eric Reitan (Avida Williams) of St. Louis, MO, Peter Reitan (Huong Bush) of Irvine, CA, Paula Reitan of Crofton, MD and Rachel Reitan of New Orleans, LA.; his grandchildren, David Boyden, Jacqui Moulthrop (Nowell) and Paisley Nowell; and his stepgrandchildren, Felisa Williams, Christopher Williams and Jeremy Bush. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Phillip & Ruth Reitan Endowment for Teaching and Learning in the Biological Sciences at Luther College, Decorah, IA.
