He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Harfst and Etta Harfst (Wendt); his wife Gerri Murdock; his brothers, Richard and Kenneth Harfst; his nephew Kent Harfst; and his great-niece Abigail Hernandez.
He is survived by: his children, Dieter and Grindle; his sibling's children, Debbie Richardson (John) of San Simeon, California, Allen Harfst (Mary) of Chico, California, Karin Sehmann (Mick) of Richmond, Kentucky and Kyle Harfst (Terri) of Mahomet, Illinois.; and his close friend Mary Poole.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 22nd 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W 1st St, Ankeny, IA 50023).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's name to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (5452 N.E. 22nd St., Des Moines, IA 50313).
