He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard E. Heyer and Amanda E. Heyer (Schluter); his former wife Geraldine "Jerrie" Anderson; and his stepmother Helen Heyer. He is survived by: his wife Ilse Heyer; his stepdaughter Patricia Neeley-Lucas; his stepgrandchildren, Ashley Bartlett (Danny), Whitney Chapman (Darren) and Kristina Schramel (Dan); his brother Richard (Tex); and his sister-in-law Nancy Heyer of Spirit Lake, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
