Erich Schmidt wrote a sympathy message

“I am deeply saddened to hear this news. I had the privilege of calling Doug a friend for more then 13 years. He was bright, sharp, witty, kind and always willing to provide a laugh and a helping hand to those in need. Our world was a better place with him. Doug, and his family, will be in my thoughts and prayers.”
