She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy Winfield Gater and Leona Hazel Gater (Bays); her son Robert Bonomi; and her husband Wayne P. Davis of Ames. She is survived by: her son D. Scott Bonomi (California).
Ferne received many awards for her work and contributions, among them: she was named Outstanding Alumna by Alpha Delta Pi sorority; she received the Gold Medallion award from the National School Public Relations Association; she received the first award from the Iowa Chapter of PRSA for her contributions to the chapter.
