He was predeceased by: his sister Diana. He is survived by: his wife Kelly; his children, Kelly Short (Phil), Shonna Avery (Kevin) and Michelle Christy (John); his grandchildren, Drake Holland (Kristi), Christopher Clark, Chandler Clark, Leslie Soroka, Abigayle Christy and Anthony Christy; and his great grandchildren, William Elmer Stumme and Ashton Ray Clark. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Memorial contributions can be directed the Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City in loving memory of Butch Burgess.
