She was loved and cherished by many people including: her husband Henry J. Carson; her parents, Ruth Bruce and Sylvester Young; her siblings, Ronnie, Teddy Shade and Carolyn Brooks; her children, Joseph Carson and Connie Carson; her son-in-law Willie McNeal; and her granddaughter Cutina Johnson. She was also cherished by 23 grandchildren, and 55 great-grandchildren.
