She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Weiss and Viola Weiss; her husband Roger Sanders; and her siblings, Donald Weiss (Eloise), Darlene and Jane Rinderknecht (David).
She is survived by: her sons, Steve Sanders (Lisa) and Jerry Sanders (Melissa); her grandchildren, John Sanders, Jara Monjaras-Sanders (Alejandro), Jill Sanders, Juliette Sanders-Howard (Sean) and Jerrett Sanders; and her great grandchildren, Juliana Dalton, Alejandro Monjaras-Sanders and Jerry Monjaras-Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Taylor Hospice House, whose compassionate care brought comfort to Joan in her final hours, or to Peace Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
