He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter L Koopman and Mildred A Walkenhorst Koopman (Westphalen). He is survived by: his wife Karen Sabin; his children, Heather DeJong (Todd), Teresa McGahey (Howie), Ann Ritchie (Randy), Eric Walkenhorst (Priscilla Fiala) and Michelle Sabin; and his siblings, Sandy Penwell (Jim), Gary Walkenhorst (Carmen), Marsha (Roger), Viki Hanson (Jeff) and Kevin Walkenhorst (Laura). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roland's honor may be made to the Eagle Volunteer Fire Department, Eagle, NE.
