He is survived by: his brother Gregory Bates; his wife Carolyn; his mother Jo Bates; his siblings, Debra Hayes (Mark) and Rick Bates; his daughters, Kelley Manson (Andrew), Laura Sanders (Jeremy), Kathryn Proball (Andrew) and Hannah Brock (Matthew); and his stepchildren, Anna Scharf (Logan), Tom Grabow (Emily), Megan Grabow and Pete Grabow. He is also survived by ten grandchildren.
