She was predeceased by : her parents, Aloysius Berning and Emma Berning (Wiederholt); her in-laws, William and Vida Hilby; her son Steven Hilby; her daughter-in-law Clara Hilby; and her siblings, Richard, Jenelle and Clarence Berning (Judy).

She is survived by : her husband Doug; her daughter-in-law Cyndy Hilby; her children, Matthew (Sarah), Kathleen Mulville (Neal) and Jason (Elizabeth); her stepsons, Derek Kulikauskas (Jane) and Neil Kulikauskas (Emily); her children, Timothy (Danielle), Laura Currie (Benjamin), Ryan, Benjamin (Anne), Joseph (Mariah), Daniel (Jessica), Abigail Thompson (Nicholas), Sarah, Nathan (Holly), Deborah (Josh), Rebekah Herra (John), Elizabeth Littlejohn (Nathan), Isaac, Adam, Maria Krein (Joseph), Rachel, Hannah Fox (John), Andrea, Mary Kae, Scott Johnson (Joanna) and Eric Johnson (Kelsey); her grandchildren, Dakota and Nathaniel (Alex); her children, Madeline, Luke, Olivia, Patrick, Cecelia and Charles; her siblings, MaryAnn Wessling (Eugene), Jerry Berning (Marilyn), Lloyd Berning (Janet), Joyce Lansing (Ron), John Berning (Ellen) and Mark Berning (Jane); and her sisters-in-law, Jeanine Hilby and Mary Berning.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, April 13th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, April 13th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Resurrection Catholic Church (4300 Asbury Rd, Dubuque, IA 52002).
