We announce the death of Bill Merritt of Dubuque, Iowa, who passed away on June 28, 2026, at the age of 67. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Merritt and Elvera Merritt (Pickel); and his sister Sharon Bakewell. He is survived by: his wife Laura Merritt (Stallsmith); his sons, Dustinn Merritt (Sarah) and Dylan Merritt (Bailey); his grandchildren, Blair, Paige, Brooks, Hayden and Landry; his brothers, Robert Merritt (Rory) and Steve Merritt; his brother-in-law Norb Bakewell; and his family Even.

As one final act of generosity, Bill chose to donate a portion of his brain to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics to support ongoing research into dementia and other memory-related diseases.
