She was predeceased by: her parents, Rudolf Matthees and Emma Matthees; her husband Robert Berndt; her siblings, John Matthees, Gerhardt Matthees (Dauphney), Marvin Matthees, Ada Iverson (Lester), Henrietta Edleman (Gene), Mary Ann Tointon (Francis) and Mildred Nisbit (Donald); and her son-in-law Gary Butler.

She is survived by: her children, Julie Butler of Dubuque, Fay Olivarez (Santos) of Aransass Pass, TX, Ellen Meyermann (Jon) of Clinton, IA, Craig Berndt (Lori) of Andover, MN and Scott Berndt of Dubuque; her brother Donald Matthees (Elverna) of Winona, MN; and her sister-in-law Pam Matthees of Rockford, IL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
