He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Engling and Veronica Engling (Brimeyer); his wife Marilyn Rapp; his siblings, Marie Kluesner (Sylvester), Viola Kaufman (William), Cecilia Gantenbein (Russ), Agnes Steines (Herman), Bernard Kluesner and Dorothy Lucas (Larry); and his in-laws, Eileen Bellings (Joye), Earl Rapp, Jr. (Myra), Robert Rapp, Patricia Kemler (Harold), John Rapp (Lillian) and Jerry Rapp (Dixie).
He is survived by: his children, Laurie Hancock (Mike), Ginny Schumacher (Curt), Pat Engling (Jacque), Tony Engling (Dawn) and Mike Engling (Virge); and his sister-in-law Jeanne Fudge (Jerry). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque in memory of Elmer.
