He was predeceased by: his parents, John C. Lease and Dorothy Lease (McDougall); his brother Paul Lease; and his nephew Scott Lease. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Lease of Asbury; his children, Darcy Gubrud (Jon) of Willmar, MN, Jim Lease of Dubuque and Jennifer Mond (Eric) of Dubuque; and his grandchildren, Madison Mond, Kathryn Gubrud (Jack), Trae Lease and Kendrick Lease.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of St. Raphael (231 Bluff St, Dubuque, IA 52001). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in John's name to Centrally Rooted Music School or the Grand Opera House.
