He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Kirk and Ester Kirk (Dolan); his father-in-law Donat Lafond; and his sister Judy Butler. He is survived by: his wife Ann; his children, Sara Kirk-Johnson, Joseph D. Kirk (Deeana) and Cory Daufeldt (Kendra); his grandchildren, Izzac Kirk, Patience Peters (Dalton), Deztiney Kirk, Andrew Johnson, Lylah Kirk and Kaden Daufeldt; his niece Maggie Elkin; his siblings, Frances "Frank" Kirk (Maria), Sue Kortweg (Coors), Mary Milroy (Craig), Karen Walseth (Dennis), Patrick Kirk, Elenor Kirk (Cleve), Allyn Elkin (Bart) and Mike Butler; his mother-in-law Susan Lafond; and his siblings-in-law, Lia Lafond, Frank Lafond, Eva Egr (Randy Jansa) and Meg Greenwood (Steve). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory (2595 Rockdale Rd, Dubuque, IA 52003). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
