With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Katherine Schmitt (Dubuque, Iowa), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 10, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her significant other Dan Schmitt; and her parents, Louis Ruden and Deloras Ruden. She is survived by: her children, Jenny Kettering (Dave), Sarah Gigous (Mark), Josh Schmitt (Jayna) and Callie Bartels (Ben); her grandchildren, Stephen (Paula), Hailey (Trevor), Gabrielle (Tanner), Ben (Becca), Hunter (Tatum), Collin, Aleece, Casey, Leah, Boen, Hazel, Aubrey, Miles, Brecken, Dawson and Delilah; and her great grandchildren, Millie, Mabel, Sylvie, Marnie and Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a place that was very special to Kathy and one she generously supported in furtherance of children's cancer research.
