He was predeceased by: his parents, Mathias Thiltgen and Cecilia Thiltgen (Klaas); his significant other Charlene H. Thurston; his siblings, LaVern, Ed, Marie and Rosella; and his stepdaughter Cindy Lee Thurston.

He is survived by: his sister Helen Lang of Grundy Center, IA; his stepdaughter Brenda Lee Thurston Burke (Walter); his pet Skippy; and his friends, Sue, Bill Collins, Pat, Terri Daly, Bruce, Cindy Schmitt, Dave Felderman, Ron Farney, Bob Steinman, Jessie Neuhaus, Brenda Melville, Judy, Wayne Botsford, Tom and Linda Ehlinger. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
