He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bakey and Bernice Bakey (Cavanaugh); his brother Jerry Bakey; his sister-in-law Kay Bakey; his sister Carol; his brother-in-law Gary Smith; his sister Darlene; his brother-in-law Mark Beckman; and his sister Mary Breen.
He is survived by: his wife Keiko Yamashiro; his children, Ruth Bond (Jim) of Fort Myers, John Bakey (Pat) of Omaha, Julie DeMoss (Craig) of Dubuque, Paula Bakey of Coralville and Cris Bakey (Nikki) of Dubuque; his brothers, Gene "Mudd" Bakey of Surprise and John Bakey (Ruth) of East Dubuque, Illinois; and his siblings-in-law, Juanita Bakey of Dubuque and Mike Breen of Dubuque. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a Richard "Dick" J. Bakey Memorial Fund has been established.
