He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Bauer and Helen Bauer (Nagle); and his siblings, Rosemary Patters, Loraine Krueger, Shirley Steuri and LaVerne Bauer.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Jean Bauer (Blakeman); his children, David Bauer (Lisa), Diane Pickel (Ed) and Daniel Bauer (Jenni); his grandchildren, Alec Bauer, Mason Bauer (Megan), Connor Bauer (Hannah), Carter Bauer, CortLynn Bauer, Brady Slaton, Becca Menster (Alex) and Eddie Pickel Jr. (Jennifer); and his great grandchildren, Oliver Bauer, Alden Bauer and Lennon Menster.
Visitation was held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory (2595 Rockdale Rd, Dubuque, IA 52003). A wake was held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Resurrection Catholic Church (4300 Asbury Rd, Dubuque, IA 52001).
Per Wayne's requests, he requests no flowers, and any memorials be given to the Dubuque Humane Society.
