Vernon Riessen Obituary
We are sad to announce that on August 3, 2025, at the age of 92, Vernon Riessen of Durant, Iowa passed away. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Vernon Riessen to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Riessen and Vera Riessen (Otto); his sons, Russell and Rex Riessen; and his siblings, Bonita Riessen, Marilyn Reimers and Darwin Riessen.
He is survived by: his wife Elba Jean Connell; his children, Rita Overton (Roger) of Hernando, FL, Rebecca Sorgenfrey (Rick) of Durant, Rhonda Bartenhagen (Matt) of Durant, Rodney Riessen (Kelli) of Ft. Dodge, IA and Rick Riessen (Lori) of Stockton, IA; his daughters-in-law, Mary Riessen of Durant and Carrie Riessen of Franklin, IN; his sisters, Deanna Petersen (Keith) of Durant, Delores Frey of Huxley, IA and Beverly Hart (Bill) of Piedmont, AL; and his sister-in-law Phyllis Riessen of Muscatine. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (606 5th Ave, Durant, IA 52747). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to the Durant American Legion or the Durant Athletic Boosters.
