He was predeceased by: his parents, Reinhold Bertels and Lucille Bertels (Heinz); his grandson Christopher Voss; his sister Joyce; and his brother-in-law Richard Wollwert.

He is survived by: his wife Kathleen L. "Kathy" Moore of Eldridge; his daughters, Marcia Voss (Dennis) of Eldridge and Cynthia Frey (Sean) of Eldridge; his grandchildren, Ryan Voss (Alyssa), Brandon Voss (Kayla), Brianna Boer (Chris), Spencer Voss, Marisa Goninen (Justin), Meredith Wyland (Isaac) and Tanner Frey (Madison); his great grandchildren, Hazel, Josie, Vivian, Lyla, Olivia, Lainey, Olive, George, Axel and Otto; and his sister Janet Bugajski (Joseph) of California.
