He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert W. Johnston and Mary Ruth Johnston (Childers); his wife Margaret J. Meyer; and his brothers, William Johnston and Robert Johnston.

He is survived by : his children, Kyle Johnston (Leslie) of Key Largo, Lance Johnston of Macomb and Lori Johnston of Gilson, Illinois; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Johnston of Galesburg and Elaine Johnston of East Galesburg; his grandchildren, Erin Lorenzen (Joe), Emily Reynolds, Elysse Johnston and Ashleigh Scheirer; and his great grandchildren, Karsyn Lorenzen, Payton Reynolds and Cian Franken (Delores Childers) of Eldridge.

Memorials may be made to the Eldridge United Methodist Church.
