He was predeceased by: his mothers, Lorraine Schmelzer and Esther Schmelzer (Bockenstedt); his wife Suzette Ingles; his parents-in-law, Larry and Sheila Ingles; and his brother Terry Schmelzer (Bugsy).
He is survived by: his stepdaughters, Brooke Steger (Jake) of Elkport and Kristi Chettinger (Travis) of Dundee; his grandchildren, Kota Steger, Ashlynn, Bralie and Kayson Chettinger; and his siblings, Sharon Reth (Dennis), Gary Schmelzer (Virginia), Jay Schmelzer and LaVerl Schmelzer (Boots). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church (204 W Oak St, Garnavillo, IA 52049). A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery (204 W Oak St, Garnavillo, IA 52049).
