He was predeceased by : his parents, Frank Smith and Margaret Smith (Maubach); his sisters, Bernice Brighton, Lorene Butler and Leona Keane; and his son-in-law Dave Henderson.

He is survived by : his wife Arliss Cooper; his children, Mike Smith (Marjorie) of Kellogg and Shari Henderson of Story City; his grandchildren, Brady Smith (Molly), Kylie Rawlins (Zack), Clint Henderson (Laura) and Kelly Henderson; his brother Harold Smith (Cecilia) of Dunlap; and also, Scott and Gail George.
